Evolution of the vaping industry: The latest vaping technologies

Vaping is one of the fastest-growing and vibrant industries. It’s hard to believe that it has passed such a long way so fast. Since the first e-cigarette hit the Chinese market in 2004, the industry has been showing no signs of slowing down.

The global market for vaping products was estimated at about $14 billion in 2017. And it is predicted to grow to $50 billion by 2025.

The Evolution of Vaping Devices

Vaping technology is constantly changing and evolving to reach the most satisfying performance. The first models of e-cigarettes were far from providing the vaping experience that modern pod vapes allow creating. Generally, vaping equipment is broken down into 3 product generations.

  • The 1st generation products strongly resemble a combustible tobacco cigarette, though a bit bigger and heavier, hence the name “cig-a-likes”. These basic devices are available in both rechargeable and disposable models. Some ex-smokers still prefer cig-a-likes for their compact size, visual resemblance to a real cigarette, and cheap price. However, they have short battery life and lack flavor options and customizability.
  • The 2nd generation products are larger than their predecessors. They mostly have a pen-style design. They are rechargeable and have a longer battery life than cig-a-likes. Usually, they are equipped with a clearomizer style tank. Pen-style devices are portability, cost-effective, and provide quality vapor. Some vape pens allow the user to adjust the voltage in order to reach a more customizable experience.
  • The 3rd generation products are Mods & APVs (Advanced Personal Vaporizers) which don’t look like traditional cigarettes. The youngest members of the vape family became more popular as dedicated hobbyists began searching for the devices that could offer full customization control over their vaping sessions. Mods and APVs managed to meet the requirements. They have such features as higher wattage, variable wattage, and voltage, digital display, temperature setting control, sub-ohm tanks, and airflow control. That’s why a vape pod is usually more expensive.

The Current Direction of Vaping Technologies

The latest generation of vaporizers set a pretty high bar. In spite of the progress achieved, the developers keep working on improving the whole vaping experience.

Some companies elaborate a new type of atomizers that uses nickel or titanium wires. They can be coupled with high-wattage. Higher electrical and thermal conductivities make temperature regulation even more sensory. That can also make coils last longer. The nickel wiring is also supposed to create thicker clouds of vapor and more flavorful hits.

The latest trend in vaping is the use of organic cotton coils (OCC). The commonly used cotton is often bleached and may contain some impurities. OCC is clean. Experts suggest that this product has the potential to drive traditional cotton coils out of the market.

Sub-ohm vapes are the most cutting-edge technology currently available. They provide immense vapor clouds and lots of vapors prefer them for this feature. So, it’s quite obvious that mainstream manufacturers will keep producing innovative clearomizers that use pre-made sub-ohm atomizer coils with resistances under 1 ohm. But it’s unlikely that these new coils will replace standard resistance ones altogether.

Pod vapes with inbuilt OLED and LCD displays are on the top of the lists of best products and have leading positions in sales. Some of us already enjoy the vaping experience they provide. It’s very convenient to use these models. You can easily control your vaping sessions as the displays show all the necessary parameters, such as temperature.

What Does The Future Hold for Vapors?

During the early stages of the vaping industry, the goal was to achieve clean and smooth hits. When this was done, the emphasis was shifted on thicker and more flavorful vapor. Today, vapor production is still a key challenge, along with smarter and more technologically advanced devices.

When talking about the future of vaping, we have to consider the following tech trends:

  • Improving battery life is certainly one of the prime focuses. Although modern devices, such as the best pod vape, boast high mAh capacities, smaller models are not powerful enough to serve a heavy vaper for the entire day without the need to be recharged. So, more advanced lithium-ion batteries are about to come. They will be smaller and more powerful. Moreover, developers are working on more efficient power-saving technology. Soon, you’ll be able to go about your day without worrying about battery life.
  • More complex and powerful processors and microchips will be inbuilt in future vape devices. That will improve software integration and various applications.
  • Another key area of work for vape specialists is developing longer lasting atomizer coils. The term of use depends on how much a particular person vapes. It usually lasts from 1 to 3 weeks. The ongoing research aims to increase a lifespan to months. Testing of alternative coils is showing promising results.
  • Flavor intensity is an important development direction. New e-juices constantly hit the market. And while staggering progress is already made in this area, the flavor output still has a room for improvement.
  • The principle of quality over quantity is a major one in modern vaping technology.  Rather than focusing on fast tech advancement, the manufacturers will give priority to producing devices of exceptional quality. Reliability, duration, and long lasting performance are three major characteristics customers want to see. So, electronic smoking devices will be made of superior materials and stuffed with some of the above-mentioned features. Perhaps, the testing will be more scrupulous.

Vaping has grown from the practice that would require bulky vaporizers to an attractive exercise that involves the use of up-to-date sleek vaporizers with eye-catching designs. Technological innovations have played part in improving the way we vape.

As it stands today, the vaping industry won’t stop to evolve. Vaporizers will likely have more a compact size, be more efficient, safer, more user-friendly, and easier to adjust to match a user’s needs and desires.
